JAKEL was established by Mohamed Jakel Bin Ahmad on January 24, 1983, in Muar, Johor. Initially, JAKEL TRADING began as a textile wholesaler serving small retailers in Muar, now recognized as The Royal Town of Muar.
In 1985, JAKEL opened a branch in Segamat, Johor. A few years later, the company increased its capital investment by RM500,000. Over the years, JAKEL has expanded its retail operations and textile supply to both government and private sectors, with the JAKEL Group's net worth now at RM5 billion.
Through a blend of business savvy and strong management, JAKEL successfully navigated the economic crisis of 1997 and grew to be Malaysia’s leading textile company. JAKEL has achieved international success and recognition through various subsidiaries and partnerships, securing the trust and standards needed to further its business endeavors. Currently, JAKEL employs approximately 5,000 staff involved in research and development, sales, marketing, and support services.
