On the other hands, the YWIES is a reputable network of international education schools in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Yantai, and Tongxiang, also providing the same for Mainland Chinese students. YWIES shares the same rich heritage as YCIS. The first Yew Chung School was founded in 1932 in Hong Kong by Madam Tsang Chor Hang, who had a humble yet mighty vision to contribute to the development of modern China, hence the names ‘Yew Chung’ and ‘Yew Wah’, which mean to ‘glorify China’. This legacy is reflected in the Mission of all YCIS/YWIES schools, which together with the Principles and Practices Statement serve as the Guiding Statement of each school. This statement is not meant to be passive, but rather action-oriented with measurable impact, permeating everything we do, say and believe. It is deliberately aspirational and forward-looking, and it is critically important that our School leaders understand and embrace this.

 

Finally, each YCIS/YWIES school is independently registered and operated, but jointly governed by an Executive Board (EB), headquartered in Hong Kong. At the site-based level, the School Leadership Team (SLT) is typically composed of a Western Co-Principal, a Chinese Co-Principal, and a School Business Manager, all sharing equal status and collective responsibility for leading and managing the whole school. The SLT, both individually and collectively, are ultimately accountable to the Chairperson of the EB, i.e. the Chief Executive Officer and School Supervisor, Dr. Betty Chan, daughter of Madam Tsang.
