YID (Yunnan Institute of Development) is a school working with cultural education and community development in

Yunnan province, southern China.

In cooperation with international HUMANA People to people we run following activities;

1. Yunnan Institute of Development, which is an adult education center offering an 11 months volunteer program in which studies on development and humanitarian issues go hand in hand with community work in Daxi village – one of the poorest parts of the country.

2. One 'Child Aid' project, which has as its purpose to improve the living standards of children in poor rural areas in

Yunnan province. The project follows an international 10-lines program and is based in the district of Daxi.

3. Local cultural education in

Yunnan province. This includes e.g. language studies and studies on HIV/AIDS.

We are looking for participants for the 11 months volunteer program. New teams are starting in January, May and September. Their tasks vary a lot, but common for all Development Instructors (our word for volunteers) is to study at YID (Yunnan Institute of Development) and to work with community development in the Child Aid project. That work includes eg. teaching in pre schools, giving seminars on nutrition, hygiene, sanitation etc, running micro credit projects and income generating activities, fight HIV/AIDS in the area as well as in the whole province or teach English and Mandarine.

After having completed the 11 months program, the participants will also be offered to continue their humanitarian work as international DI's in either India or Zambia.

Job Requirement & Responsibilities

Responsibility, motivation, caring personality, openness towards people and new situations, sufficient spoken and written English and the will to learn and work hard.

Age: from 18 years.

No previous experience or academic qualifications are needed.

Other info

Foreign participants pay an enrolment fee of 250 $US. That covers enrolment, visa, renewal of visa and registration.

The program fee is then 1000 $US which covers education, education material, transport in the work and monthly pocket money à 390 RMB, during 11 months.

Participants pay for food and lodging. YID can help finding lodging if needed.
